What to expect: A continuous, curated DJ set drawing from the deep well of Latin American and Caribbean Soundsystem culture — Colombian cumbia and champeta, Nicaraguan music from the Pacific and Atlantic coasts, Panamanian Plena, Reggae en Español, Dancehall, Salsa, Afrobeat, Soul, and more. Everything is mixed and remixed in a continuous club-style set. This is not a request DJ service and not a mainstream Latin pop set — it’s a specific cultural experience for audiences who want an energetic, danceable mix with roots.
Live electronic performance: In addition to DJ sets, Momotombo Soundsystem performs live electronic shows featuring original music — a fusion of Cumbia, Dancehall, and Caribbean rhythms produced and performed live. Current original releases are available on Bandcamp and SoundCloud.
The soundsystem is an intimate, hand-built setup in the Jamaican tradition — well-suited for small outdoor events, community spaces, patios, and smaller indoor venues.
Speaking engagements: Available for talks and presentations on soundsystem culture and history, Latin American and Caribbean music traditions, soundsystem construction and DIY culture, and the role of music and gathering as community resistance. Recent academic presentation: “Beyond the Bassline: Soundsystems as the Infrastructure for Identity and Resistance” (NACCS 2025).
Rates: Community-oriented and benefit events: negotiable / free. For-profit events: starting at $500 for up to 3 hours, negotiable depending on event needs and whether sound equipment is provided. Club sets starting at $150 for up to 90 min.
