The weather is hot, the system is upgraded, and I’m ready to play some hot Nicaraguan tunes for you! I’m excited to share two outdoor events I’ll be performing at this summer.
Papa’s Frita 3 Year Anniversary,
June 24, 6-9pm, Mama Chow’s Kitchen
I met Chef Rene last year when he reached out to have me play the 2nd year anniversary for Papa’s Frita. We had a great event at Migration Brewing in NE Portland, with a wonderful crowd, fun celebration, pinata, and the best fritanga in town. This year, I’m back for year 3, and Rene has a limited service of 80 spots for his amazing fritanga. Follow Papa’s Frita PDX on Instagram for details on how to grab your spot.
This is going to be a special pop-up event at Mama Chow’s Kitchen, 3757 SE Hawthorne, part of the cart pod at Union on Hawthorne. Mama Chow’s was started by Jeff Chow in 2014, and has been turning heads in Portland’s food cart scene for a while now, with best cart awards from the Oregonian and inclusion in any of the best cart lists. Great excuse to try both in the same night!
I won’t have the full soundsystem out for this one due to limitations on power and space in the location.
5th Annual Overlook Porchfest,
Saturday July 11, 4-5pm, Merge Stage, 4501 N Concord Ave
I’ll be bringing the full soundsystem for this, and all the djs will be playing on it. Porchfest is in its 5th year, and it’s grown into something awesome. Read more about the event on the Overlook Neighborhood Association Website. Last year had close to 80 acts across 25 homes around the Overlook neighborhood. It happens alongside the Overlook Yard Sale and the Mississippi Ave Street Fair, so the whole area turns into one long afternoon of music, food, and people celebrating and having fun with their community.
Merge Stage has a full lineup that Saturday. Fam Sandwich with DJ RatDad and DJ RatBoi opens at 2pm, Cabotage follows at 3pm, I’m on at 4pm with Momotombo Soundsystem, Swan Songs Portland takes over at 5pm, and Jens Irish closes it out at 6pm.
